Electronic composer, producer and musician Robert Logan was introduced to Slowfoot Records by producer Ivor Guest [Grace Jones, Brigitte Fontaine, Bomb The Bass], who, impressed by such an obvious talent, invited him to the studio to contribute beats and textures for Grace Jones' forthcoming album. They have since collaborated on a number of projects including Oscar and Emmy nominated soundtracks.
His first album ‘Cognessence’ prompted an array of rave reviews and support. Still only 19 at the time he was described as “…something of a prodigy… a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find.” [BBC experimental]. Mary Anne Hobbs called his music “Absolutely outstanding… …impossible to quantify”, DJ Mag his album “The essential last word in electronic soundscapes”. A second album ‘Inscape’ and a clutch of EP’s garnered yet more praise and cemented his reputation as an artist with immense talent and one worth keeping a very close eye on in the future.
2015 saw him re-emerge with the dazzling new ‘Extasis EP’ and his third full length album ‘Flesh’ “… a musical object so radical and daring it seems not to belong to his time.” [Trax]. This was quickly followed by ‘Flesh Decomposed’ , his 4th album a set of re-imaginings of material from 'Flesh', which coincided with the release of two albums which are the fruits of his long term collaboration with ambient god-father Steve Roach [‘Biosonic’ and ‘Second Nature’]. This was followed by two releases in 2017, ‘Sculptor Galaxy’ quickly followed by the eclectic ‘Pop (EP)’, marking 10 years since his debut LP ‘Cognessence’.
Alongside his personal recording work, Logan has found a lot of success blossoming career composing music for film and TV, notably contributing to the Channel 4 drama ‘Top Boy’ and the Oscar winning documentary ‘Taxi To The Dark Side’, whilst continuing to apply his much admired skills as a producer to projects with the likes of Grace Jones, Brigitte Fontaine and Skye [Morcheeba]. He has produced a number of critically acclaimed remixes for a number of high profile artists, including Grace Jones, Red Snapper and Hello Skinny.
His music is an intelligent fusion of influences from folk, medieval and classical to krautrock and electronica. He blends acoustic and electronic instruments and sound sources including voices and field recordings, developing an intuitive and fluid use of digital production tools through which he squeezes, teases and shapes his material. His complex and restless rhythms carry an echo of his half Hungarian background and its rich musical history. His production skills are edge of the seat, playful and asymmetrical - a powerful assimilation of recent trends that mellows with repeated listens to reveal a strong melodic instinct.
